Amnio PCR
The result of amniotic fluid analysis: a modern, quick, inexpensive and reliable way
AmnioPCR is a modern method for genetic testing of the amniotic fluid or chorionic villi. It determines the number of individual chromosomes in the foetus based on a comparison of genetic markers on DNA of the mother and the foetus. The result is subsequently confirmed by a classical cytogenetic test.
The advantage of this method, as compared to a classical evaluation, is speed. The result is available on the same day.
Currently available are tests for the trisomy of 21st chromosome (Down syndrome) — amnioPCR, or a set to test other common trisomies of chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X and Y, referred to as multiamnioPCR.
